A Smart Dog in School

One day, Tom arrives at school at 8:30 a.m. His teacher looks at him and says, "Tom, where is your homework?" Tom points to his bag and smiles. A little dog is sitting among the books. The teacher asks, "Why is your dog in your bag?" Tom reads a short note aloud. He says, "My dog loves my math notebook." The teacher asks, "Why does he love math?" Tom answers with amusement, "Because it is full of problems!" The teacher laughs, and the whole class laughs together.

A Pain in the Eye

At 9:00 a.m., a young man visited a doctor. He looked worried and said, "Doctor, I have a strange problem. Every morning, I add a small amount of sugar to my hot tea. But when I drink it, I feel a sharp pain in my right eye!"
The doctor asked, "Does this pain happen among other drinks too?"
"No, it happens only with tea," the man replied.
The doctor thought for a moment and brought a fresh cup of tea. "Please show me how you drink it," he said.
The man took a sip and cried aloud, "Ouch!"
With mild amusement, the doctor smiled and gave his advice: "Take the spoon out of the cup first!"

An Order at the Library

A man walked into a quiet city library at 11:00 a.m. He walked up to the front counter and spoke aloud to the librarian. "I would like a cheeseburger, large fries, and a cold drink, please!" he said in a strong voice. The librarian looked at him with great surprise. She adjusted her glasses, shook her head, and said, "Sir, you are among many people studying here. This is a library!" The man's face turned completely red. He realized his mistake immediately. "Oh, I am so sorry," he replied in embarrassment. He quickly looked around the room, took a deep breath, and leaned forward. Then, in a very soft whisper, he said, "I would like a cheeseburger, large fries, and a cold drink, please." The other people watched in quiet amusement as the librarian just sighed.

A Smart Way to Keep a Secret

One morning at 9:00 a.m., a busy medical clinic was crowded with patients. Among them was a young man who had a terrible earache. When he walked up to the front desk, the clerk asked him loudly about the reason for his visit. To the amusement of other people waiting nearby, she began to repeat all personal details aloud. The man felt embarrassed because he thought his medical condition should be private. He did not want to describe the exact amount of pain or his symptoms in front of everyone. Suddenly, he smiled and asked the clerk for a pen and a piece of paper. He wrote a short note and handed it back to her quietly. The clerk read the note, and her face turned bright red. All the patients looked at her with curious eyes. Unable to keep silent, the clerk whispered, 'Why on earth did you write that you are pregnant?' The man replied cheerfully, 'Because maybe now you will keep my business between us!'

The Midnight Telephone Call

At 2:00 a.m. on a cold winter night, Mr. Harrison was suddenly awakened by the loud ringing of his telephone. Annoyed and exhausted, he picked up the receiver. On the other end was his furious neighbor, Mr. Green, who shouted aloud in anger.

"Your dog has been barking for three hours, and the incredible amount of noise is driving me crazy!" Mr. Green yelled. "I have a crucial business meeting tomorrow, but I cannot sleep at all. If you cannot keep your noisy pet quiet among your neighbors, I will call the police immediately!" Before Mr. Harrison could utter a single word, Mr. Green slammed the phone down.

Mr. Harrison sat on the edge of his bed in silence for a few minutes. Instead of becoming angry, a quiet smile of amusement spread across his face. He calmly set his alarm clock and returned to sleep.

The following night, exactly at 2:00 a.m., Mr. Harrison picked up his telephone and dialed Mr. Green's number. After ten rings, a very sleepy and confused Mr. Green finally answered.

Mr. Harrison whispered politely into the receiver, "Good morning, Mr. Green. I am just calling to inform you that I do not own a dog."

A Matter of Priority

At around 3:00 a.m. one chilly night, a retired diplomat named George woke up to suspicious noises coming from his garden shed. Looking through the window, he spotted two figures among his tool racks stealing valuable equipment. He immediately contacted the police station to report the break-in. However, the sleepy dispatcher sighed and stated, "All our patrol units are busy right now. Lock your doors and stay inside. An officer might arrive in an hour or two." George quietly hung up the phone. He waited thirty seconds, took a deep breath, and dialed the emergency number again. "Hello," George said aloud in a calm voice. "I phoned a moment ago about the intruders in my shed. You do not need to hurry anymore because I just took out my shotgun and shot both of them." Within five minutes, the entire neighborhood was lit up by flashing sirens. Three patrol cars, an armed tactical team, and a medical ambulance screeched onto the street. The officers immediately surrounded the shed and apprehended the two shocked burglars caught red-handed. The police sergeant walked up to George and demanded furiously, "I thought you said you shot them!" George smiled with gentle amusement and replied, "And I thought you said you had no available cars."
